James Silas Rogers is an editor and essayist with a particular interest in cemeteries and sacred space. His essays on cemeteries have appeared in various literary periodicals, including Big Muddy, South Dakota Review, New Letters, and ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, and his mixed mixed-genre book about burial sites Northen Orchards: Places Near the Dead, was a finalist for the 2014 Minnesota Book Award.
Four of his essays have been selected as “Notables” in the annual Best American Essays volumes from Houghton-Mifflin.
His poems have appeared in numerous publications, among them Nimrod, Spiritus, and Poetry East, as well as the chapbook Sundogs (Parallel Press 2006).
Rogers edits the journal New Hibernia Review, a peer-reviewed journal of Irish Studies that also publishes essays, memoirs, and poetry.
He is also the parent of two Beloit alumni, Frank and Annie Rogers.
