From Implicit Bias to Explicit Action: Confronting Anti-Blackness

12:30 PM
#BlackLivesMatterBeloit challenges the Beloit campus to confront implicit bias--specifically anti-Blackness. Whether one consciously or explicitly harbors racial prejudice or not, ALL of us are subject to our own hidden, implicit biases. These result from subtle cognitive processes, often operating at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control. So what’s the good news? YOU CAN CHANGE THIS!

Knowing your biases gives YOU the power to ACT!
the Race (Black/White) Implicit Bias Test (IAT)
and one additional test
to confront your own biases. Each test takes about 10 minutes.
(Your results remain confidential and are not collected by us.)

SECOND: Reflect on ways in which bias manifests in daily life, and use this anonymous online form to document instances of bias you experience or observe.
Submit your observations by Thursday, November 9th, 10pm.
They remain
and will be used to guide our discussion of action.

THIRD: Join us for Friday's culminating event (Nov 10th, 12:30-1:20pm) to discuss how WE can take ACTION to COMBAT OUR BIASES and to win door prizes! Prizes will include essential books on racism and anti-racism and merchandise from several student entrepreneurs.

Take the test! Know your bias! Fight against it!
